Information Access Policy

Last Updated November 26, 2024

At Somethings, we believe that parents are a crucial part of their mental health journey. We are committed to supporting the mental wellbeing of the teens who seek out our services while respecting their legal privacy. This policy outlines the rights and responsibilities of parents, teens, and Somethings to ensure clarity.

At any time, Parents are encouraged to meet with a member from the Somethings staff to:

  • Discuss Somethings’ policies.

  • Learn about how the platform works.

  • Ask general questions.

Parent Rights and Access to Information

Selective Access: Parents may request access to certain aspects of their teen’s mentorship information. Due to coverage under HIPAA, teen's will need to complete a Release of Information in order for parents to access specific information related to their teen's participation in Somethings. Teens can consent to their parent's having access to some and/or all of the following information:

  • Whether their teen is engaged in the Somethings Service.

  • Who their teen’s mentor is.

  • Monthly video updates from the mentor summarizing progress and themes (if enabled by the teen).

  • Self-assessment data that teen’s have completed as part of their Mentorship

Teens have the right to deny parent's access to this information at their own discretion. If there is concern for the teen's physical wellbeing, Somethings is required to break confidentiality and provide necessary information to appropriate caregivers and emergency resources (as needed) to ensure the teen's safety. Please review our HIPPA policy for additional information.

Requests to Discontinue Support

Teens may end their mentorship at any time for any reason and do not need to give prior notice. If a parent explicitly requests that Somethings discontinue supporting their teen, the teen will be contacted and made aware of the request. However, it will be teen’s decision whether to continue or discontinue the program.

Requests to Change Mentors

Teens may change their Mentor at any time for any reason and may do so in the Somethings App.
